$6K Goes a Long Way Toward Healing Wounds; $1K Not So Much

My husband came home for work yesterday and said that he had found a job opportunity for me. "You could earn $6,000 a month taking care of illegal child - or double that for two children." 

Knowing he had most likely heard this tidbit of news from listening to Rush Limbaugh, I Googled and found a July 10th Breitbart article confirming such an ad had been in a Murrieta, CA newspaper.

Lisa Maloney Vinton, a Murrieta resident, provided Breitbart Texas with a purported copy of the advertisement, which was put up by the Crittenton Services and Foster Family Agency. It says, "Help heal the wounds ... for children in foster care programs including survivors of human trafficking and unaccompanied refugee minors." 

According to the ad, foster parents who pass the certification process could receive up to $6,054 in monthly tax-free support. But, one word in the ad seems curious to me: reimbursement.  That would seem to imply that one would have to prove fostering a child is costing $6K. If not, why wouldn't the ad indicate "compensation" instead of "reimbursement"?

In a related piece, Breitbart Texas reported that it called the number listed in the ad and spoke directly with a Crittenton FFA spokeswoman who clarified the specifics listed in the wanted ad.

The spokeswoman claimed that in order to be considered, prospective foster parents must "have one bedroom available with furniture in it, pass a background check, and provide a driver's license."

She additionally stated that foster parents must attend four Saturday classes and have their home inspected prior to taking in the children. Parents who offer up their homes could have a child placed in their home in "as short as 45 days." 

The amount of monthly payments, administered by the federal government, depends on how old the immigrant child is. The older the child, the higher the payment, according to the Crittenton spokeswoman--but the average payment per illegal immigrant is $1,009.  

But, wait . . . the ad indicated $6,054.  The actual compensation is, on average, $1,009 per month.  So, now the federal government is false advertising to trick Americans into helping them take care of the nightmare it created.
