When Jihad Goes Terribly Wrong - IDF Thwarts Hamas Tunnel Attack

Early this morning, Israel Defense Forces stopped a Hamas terror group from entering Israel via a terror tunnel. IDF forces identified approximately 13 terrorists attempting to infiltrate Israel through a terror tunnel constructed by Hamas. The tunnel led underground from the southern Gaza Strip towards the southern Israeli community of Sufa. ​IDF forces thwarted an impending terror attack, preventing the terrorists from attacking an Israeli kibbutz. The foiled attack could have had deadly and devastating consequences if carried out. No injuries were reported to IDF soldiers.



To date, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has discovered several Hamas terror tunnels. These tunnels have typically been used by terror groups to attack or kidnap Israeli citizens or soldiers. One of the largest was found in October last year.

It took Hamas over a year to complete, and is tall enough inside to allow people to stand fully upright as they travel along it. The tunnel is buried some 20 meters underground as it crosses the Gaza border.

A security source said it was the most well-designed terror tunnel found by the IDF to date.

The tunnel was constructed using approximately 24,000 Israeli concrete slabs which the IDF had permitted into Gaza to ease the crisis in the civilian construction sector, Southern Command chief Maj.-Gen. Sami Turgeman said. As a result, Israel has stopped allowing concrete into Gaza.
