Well, at least Mayor
Kneier had the good sense to just step down in a timely manner to save himself
and the City of San Marino any further embarrassment. More politicians
could do well to learn from Mr. Kneier's swift action to resign, rather than
stonewalling, obfuscating and making insipid pleas for understanding and
forgiveness as so many politicians attempt to do when caught in more egregious
circumstances.
Kneir will remain on
the San Marino City Council as a council member, since the mayor's position is
determined by a vote of the council members, as is common in a mayor-council
system of municipal government.
Note: I live
approximately 20 miles from San Marino, a very pleasant upscale community
nestled in the San Gabriel mountain foothills looking south upon the greater
Los Angeles area.
