Chicago already holds the title as the murder capital of America. Now it's looking toward a strike of tens of thousands of teachers on Monday. This would be the first such strike in over a generation. It almost makes a person want to rush right out and move to the Michigan Avenue Gold Coast of Chicago, on the shores of deep blue Lake Michigan. Or, maybe not.
CHICAGO (AP) -- The vice president of the Chicago Teachers Union said Saturday the city school district's latest offer in contract negotiations was disappointing and that the wrangling would continue throughout the weekend, as tens of thousands of teachers readied to walk off the job on Monday. Chicago teachers say they're prepared to walk off the job for the first time in 25 years over issues that include pay raises, classroom conditions, job security and teacher evaluations. Meanwhile, Rahm 'Dead Fish" Emanuel, recently returned from the DNC convention in that hick town of Charlotte, NC, is reported seeking a couple of horses heads to use in secret motivational outreach attempts to persuade the Chicago Teachers Union officials to review the deal "you can't refuse" from the City of Chicago.
I'm putting my money on that master of organizational motivation, Rham Emanuel, Mayor of Chicago, to come through with a settlement among the remaining union officers that have not taken emergency leave to attend to a sick relative in Haiti or Kenya.
