When President Obama lectured the members of the Supreme Court in
attendance at the 2010 State of the Union speech, it was thought to be
an anomaly, something a little distasteful, but out of the ordinary and
probably a one off comment that was slipped in by an anonymous
speechwriter.
On Monday several things became obvious. First, who ever
contributed to the 2010 SOTU speech reared their very ugly head once
again, when Obama made a dark, ominous and thinly veiled threat directed
at the Supreme Court, which just last week, heard oral arguments in the
case of Obamacare.

stern language to the Supreme Court of the United States regarding his
health care law, expressing confidence "Obamacare" will not be
overturned by the nation's highest court.
"I'm confident this will be upheld
because it should be upheld," the president said Monday afternoon at a
White House press conference that included Canadian Prime Minister
Stephen Harper and Mexican President Felipe Calderon, who are attending
the North American Leaders' Summit. The president said overturning the
law would be "an unprecedented and extraordinary step" and compared the
court's rejection of the law to "judicial activism." [...]
Obama, a University of Chicago Law School Lecturer (and not a
professor), had the gall to lecture the Supreme Court on their role as
the third branch of government. Obama failed to acknowledge that it is
the Supreme Court's responsibility to ensure that the other two branches
do not overstep their constitutional bounds. It's as if Obama was
talking down to the Supreme Court and telling the conservative justices
to mind their place in as much as they weren't elected and that a
democratically elected Congress passed the law and so they should uphold
the law. Obama's demeanor smacked of some little third world tyrant,
like Hugo Chavez, telling a show court what the court's outcome should
be. Plainly put, Obama has absolutely no respect for the rule of law,
especially when it may destroy his signature piece of legislation in
what can only be hoped will be his one and only term as POTUS.
This veiled threat is just another of his intimidation tactics. I love it, because it publicly outs him as a bully. Where people don't listen or watch cable news, this little performance was done in our brain dead media. They have not only been insulted, but also accused of "judicial activism" which will now light a little bonfire under five of these justices because they have been threatened.
ReplyDeleteRemember when Newt brought up the issue of impeachment of the Justices? This is an example of the extent this troll will go to, to clear out the hurdles to a second term. Intimidation tends to make people sit up and take notice. Was this threat including their families? Their jobs? Their personal safety?
The constant braggadocio regarding his creation of jobs is actually correct. How many new Secret Service Officers will he have to hire to protect these judges from his Chicago thugs?
The uncomfortable issue, of course, is whether or not the threats will work and the bill will be passed.
