Even as early as last August, the Obama campaign had a strategy: Kill Will....as in Willard Mitt Romney:
Barack Obama’s aides and advisers are preparing to center the president’s re-election campaign on a ferocious personal assault on Mitt Romney’s character and business background, a strategy grounded in the early stage expectation that the former Massachusetts governor is the likely GOP nominee.
“Unless things change (Obama's non-record) and Obama can run on accomplishments, he will have to kill Romney,” said a prominent Democratic strategist aligned with the White House.
And so it began. And so they did just that, or tried to anyway. Polling numbers and pundits would suggest differently.
This just in: Bain attack still not working
Obama’s Bain Attacks Aren’t Working
Obamacare’s unpopularity blunts Obama’s attacks on Romney-Ryan Medicare plans
Obama’s negative attacks on Romney have had little effect
It's obvious that Obama has nothing on his own to run on. But Mitt does: not only his own background, accomplishments, and abilities, but Obama's negative record of record-high deficits, debts, unemployment, and spending. It's hard to kill someone without any weapons. You know the old saying: 'Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me'. The sticks and stones are Obama's record being used against him. The words are Obama's attempt to deflect from that non-existent record. Sorry, Obama, but Operation: Kill Will has failed. Your next mission: to relocate to Chicago without being too embarrassed.
