John McCain & Lindsay Graham: Two men whose time in politics long ago reached the end of its shelf life

By Rob Janicki

Last week in a spontaneous act to push, if not force, the Attorney General into unequivocally stating that  any presidential order to kill an American citizen on American soil without due process would be an unconstitutional act, Rand Paul stood tall among many in Washington, D.C. and across the nation.

Apparently two old RINO's weren't impressed with Paul's action and didn't hesitate to come out and bash Paul, a first term senator, and other first term Republican senators, for their audacity in standing up for all Americans who hold the Constitution to be sacrosanct.

I admire the personal sacrifice of John McCain as a prisoner of war in Vietnam for five and one half years in defense of his fellow American prisoners.  But does that give McCain a lifetime pass on all the egregious steps he has taken to demonize constitutional conservatives in the Republican Party?  I don't think so.

The time for John McCain and Lindsay Graham, as effective Republican senators, has come and gone.  That's not to say that they are wrong on everything they support or pontificate upon.  However, McCain and Graham trashing Paul, Cruz, Rubio, Johnson, etc. was petty, self serving. destructive of conservative principles, and very damaging to Republican Party unity.

The super inflated egos of McCain and Graham, however, will prevent them from voluntarily standing down to such further actions in the future.  McCain is on the last lap of the political merry-go-round, so there's not much that can be done to ameliorate his RINO influence in the Senate.  Unfortunately, Graham could be around for many years to come, unless he can be successfully defeated in his next primary.  It's time the conservatives in South Carolina seriously consider challenging Graham and go on to defeat him in the next primary.

In the meantime, conservative senators cannot be cowed by the likes of McCain and Graham.  Conservatives, whether in the Senate or the House, must be supported despite being characterized as a radical minority by both Democrats and establishment RINO's.  In my opinion, conservatives are the only hope for the Republican party.  Establishment Republicans have historically played the seniority game, whereby leadership fell to the oldest, whether they were competent or not, forward looking or simply reactionary.

The fate of the Republican party will be determined in the next four years.  Will it be lead by the likes of people like McCain and Graham or will it be lead by conservatives like Paul, Cruz and Rubio?

  1. I thought what McCain did and said publicly was very telling. He's an ex-Dem and it showed up in the most interesting way. I believe that this little snitty exchange is going to be the barometer for the change in the GOP as the 'younger' Tea Partyers are going to have to do battle with the old guard.
BTW I now understand why both McCain (2008) and Romney (2012) were the Presidential candidates - picked by the old guard. I can picture these oldies in their white hoods picking off the likes of Paul, Cruz, Rubio, etc. Playing nicely together would be such a great way to beat the troll in '14 and again in '16. No such luck.
