Even
though he is physically fine, for now Bowe Bergdahl will stay in a US military
hospital in Germany for treatment. According to NBC News, even though he’s been permitted to talk to his parents, Bergdahl
has so far chosen not to call his family in Idaho, the officials said. No specific reason
for Bergdahl’s mindstate were given except that he continues treatment for
psychological and emotional problems as a result of his five years in
captivity.
If Bowe Bergdahl has the slightest clue as to the growing perception of him back home as a traitor/deserter, it's no wonder he would want to postpone his return to face a barrage of questions on his actions five years ago which landed him in captivity. After living with Haqqani for so long and having been tortured and then assimilated into their culture, it's understandable that Bergdahl would have to undergo intense therapy. It does seem odd, however, that he doesn't want to speak with his parents, his biggest champions during this ordeal. Maybe I need to go back to season one of Homeland to gain a better perspective.
