McDaniel Learns that Racism Alive and Well in Mississippi

Yes, racism is alive and well in Mississippi but not like you may think. The South has suffered a long history of racism aimed at the black community, especially in Mississippi. There’s no denying that. But, in 2014 racism has a different façade where it is used as a weapon.

Eight days prior to the Republican runoff election in Mississippi, Chris McDaniel led Thad Cochran by 12 points. The prediction was that this race would be close, but clearly the polls showed that McDaniel was the favored candidate by actual republicans. So, what happened?

According to McDaniel, “there is something a bit strange, there is something a bit unusual, about a Republican primary that’s decided by liberal Democrats.” Huh? What liberal Democrats? How about Kehinde Gaynor, who has been labeled as a Democratic political operative working with a Mississippi PAC, and who had been trying to lynch Conservative Tea-Party backed candidate Chris McDaniel in the last few hours of the run-off election with Thad Cochran.

Gaynor, along with other Democrat, black community leaders like Pastor Ronnie C. Crudup, were instrumental in creating fear in the black community by using racist, scare tactics and passing out fliers demonizing Chris McDaniel as a Tea Party racist.

According to a radio interview with Sean Hannity this afternoon, had it not been for Haley Barbour and Thad Cochran reaching out to the Democrats and creating the narrative that a Tea Party candidate would shut off food stamps and shut down public schools, the McDaniel campaign would have won by a margin of 25,000 votes. And to add insult to injury, Facebook is filled with those bragging today of voting for Cochran solely for the intention of cleaning up the RINO establishment party's mess.

Due to this kind of evidence, McDaniel may have a slight case to challenge the race results.  While anyone could vote in the Republican runoff primary race who had not previously voted in the Democratic primary, Mississippi law stipulates that any "crossover" votes must be sincere in nature. This means that if any Democrat voted for Thad Cochran yesterday, his or her intent should be to vote for him also in November. 

But, let's face it - a challenge like this would be almost impossible to mount, prove and resolve before the November election.  Another possibility floating around today is that McDaniel could be a write-in candidate on the November ballot.

It's simply not good news for conservative Mississippians today who are faced with one hell of a paradox.  If they stand with principle and renounce the scumbag tactics of Barbour and Cochran and refuse their support in November, Democrats win.  If they support McDaniel as a write-in candidate, the vote will be split and Democrats win.
